HELLO!

Alex Sabrina

Caught in the Middle is a project that was created in a university dorm room by two queer women of color. Before this project, we had no idea with what to do with our lives. We felt that we were pressured into our majors, and for the first two years we were going through the motions without enjoying our studies. Every day felt scheduled and that lead us into believing everything was pointless. It didn’t matter the grades nor the lectures because we weren’t utilizing the things we were learning. Our creative abilities were being put to waste so by creating Caught in the Middle, we are able to use this project as an outlet to express creativity, share stories, and give back to the community. Every day we learn more and more about the identities that exists around us and how we are all just as confused as we figure life out.

This project aims to highlight and represent a diverse group of individuals, while donating some of the proceeds to a local LGBTQ+ organization.

Our mission is to not only give back to our community but create an inclusive environment for a diverse set of stories to be told. We would like people to see others in our t-shirt and know they are welcomed and expand this inclusive community elsewhere.

Story behind our logo:

Our brand was inspired by Paramore’s song “Caught in the Middle.” The clock symbolizes how young people today are pressured to have everything planned out. As students, we are expected to know what field and job we want to go into, without fully exploring all of our interests. By breaking the clock, we are breaking the pressure of trying to immediately figure life out. Instead we are taking it slow and living in the present since we are technically caught in the middle.

Sabrina is a pre-med dropout (and is now studying psychology) and Alex still doesn’t know what she’s doing.
